Hawaii! A new state for both of us. As New Englanders, Hawaii is a haul and a half. After a stopover in LA to break up the journey, we found ourselves at island number one: Kauai!

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta Kauai, mostly for the beach and pool combo. ***chef’s kiss***

As a former (?) hostel aficionado, “Hawaii Resort Room Rates” make me vom a little, but dang was it relaxing. We spent a lot of time lounging, swimming, and sipping drinks, mostly of the tropical variety. As one does.

Speaking of… right down the beach was what would become our favorite restaurant, Duke’s. We had a stellar dinner and brunch there- would rec. Some other good food: Tiki Taco, Aloha Liege Waffles, Porky’s, Chicken in a Barrell BBQ, Kauai Beer Company, and Street Burger. (Chris had to drive home after I had ONE drink at that last one though, buyer beware).

Dukes! What a vibe.

When we weren’t lazing about, we were zipping around exploring the island.

Big ol trees!

Somewhere on the North Shore!

Waimea Canyon!

A highlight for us was a boat tour from Hanalei to the Napoli Coast. We ditched the giant sailboat trip for a small open-air adventure. We saw DOLPHINS! And A SEA TURTLE! Oh and OUTRAGEOUS SCENERY!

Overall- big Kauai fans! We didn’t have a bad meal, weather was perfect, what more can you ask for? Oh, Jurassic Valley. you say? Well, we were headed to Oahu next for just that!
