EP EU UK

Work brought me to Germany and the UK this winter.

I have a goal this year to lug my camera around more. So- here’s some moments along the way from my 10 day circularity scavenger hunt.

I started the trip in Hamburg, a new German city for me. It’s a major port, and has a Unesco World Heritage Site in the Speicherstadt, a historic warehouse district.

I had some misadventures in the food department: I arrived on a Monday, and nothing was open, leading me to this currywürst makeshift dinner. (Luckily, I heckin love currywürst).

The next night I found a super cute spot that was open…

buuuuut I had a google translate fail. My “Meat and Potatoes” order ended up being “corned or raw or something beef and some potatoes are probably in there and there’s pickled fish and oh, here’s some beets.” It wasn’t that bad TBH but wasn’t what I thought I was getting.

I took the train from Hamburg to Amsterdam, where I met up with my coworker Tom. It took about eight hours, but that felt easy peasy lemon squeezy after my cross-America train trip.

Loved my Dutch Pancake breakfast at Cafe Der Schreierstoren.

I love love love Amsterdam and all the bikes. Tom chauffeured us around to meetings, thanks Tom.

From Brussels, I took the train to London to start the UK portion of my trip.

Beer Boys: “Simply Wild” Tom and London Pub Pal Ian (happy coincidence that we were both in town!)

I took the train further up north, then rented a car and made my way back with vendor visits along the way. I passed through the Lakes District and Peaks District, both of which warrant further exploring.

Keswick was super adorable.

I spent a night in Oxford before heading to Heathrow.

Full English at Vaults & Garden

Overall it was a good trip; I got done what I needed to get done, explored some new places, and ate a lot of carbs. Success.
